Poor Mrs Zebra, I think we all know how you feel.

One for all the Mum's and Dad's, I am sure at one time or another (or several times a day!) you have felt like poor Mrs Zebra.  Her expression is priceless.

This is taken from the book, "Za Za's Baby Brother" by Lucy Cousins.

Stressed to the max from a sleep deprived shopping trip with a screaming baby demanding a feed, poor Mrs Zebra just can't keep a happy face.  Not even for the children's story book.  Classic.

Even Mr Zebra is over it.  At least Za Za is still smiling, well almost.  Now the giraffe, well he IS smiling and having quite the time watching the drama unfold it seems.

Mrs Zebra really needs to get some pants.

Have you found any funny illustrations in a Children's book?

  2. I got this book when pregnant with number 2. I found it totally depressing but No 1 seemed to take it in his stride, and it is accurate, so I've since given it to a number of 'big brothers' and 'big sisters' when dropping off the baby pressie.
They should show Mrs Zebra when she has a pre teen and numerous other kids to deal with...new born was a breeze!

    1. Yes, I had through about that, throw in a couple of extra kids and a surly teenager for good measure.

  3. I love it! Sometimes I think these story books are aimed at us parents just to help us realise that it's all normal! Poor Mrs Zebra indeed!

  10. I think Lucy Cousins should have included a "All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental" caveat.
Mrs Zebra and I have a lot in common most days! x

  13. Love it! We read a story last week about a very cranky cat. Bailey called him the scary cat.
Funny thing was, the cover labelled it as 'a love story'

  15. I haven't read this book but I have identified with or got a chuckle out of so many others. Olivia books are popular in this house and I enjoy the parental level of these as well as the children's story.

  17. What a brilliantly accurate expression! I can't think of any specific illustrations I've chuckled at. But like movies, I love a book that is written for the parent to enjoy too.

  21. My oldest son loved this story. We got the book when his little brother was born. I never noticed Mrs Zebra didn't have any pants. Very funny!

I was once reading a Richard Scarry book we borrowed from the library. In it was an illustration of a poodle smoking a cigarette using one of those cigarette holders. Then I'm sure I saw a cigarette butt in the sand at one of his beach scenes. You'd never see that in a children's book today!

  22. This looks like a great book - perfect for our impending arrival. The winning book here is still Pants - it seems to appeal to both of our senses of humour

  27. I think you have inspired me to find some funny illustrations too. The weirdest one I have found so far is a nursery rhyme book where some of the characters actually look like my eldest 2 kids and the mum in the story looks like me - creepy...

    1. Wow, that would have serious creep factor! Does the author live down the street from you? heheh

  28. Hahaha, I always think these things when I am reading kids books. And I always make up alternate storylines and imagine that perfectly innocent words and stories are actually euphemisms for other less savoury things!

    1. We change words of some things, like Nappy instead of diaper, or if they use 'stupid' we change that too.
